No you do not really have to be Super Cognos Man.  But I am looking for a Senior Cognos 8 Developer for a Direct Marketing client. This is a direct position in a company free of Bureaucratite (a soporific derivative of Kryptonite), that is growing, and a fun place to work.  Little or no travel is expected.

My client is seeking an experienced Cognos Developer to lead the development and implementation of business intelligence and data warehouse solutions.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Supports Cognos production environments for multiple internal and external clients
• Develops, modifies, tests and distributes multiple reports
• Determines direction for Cognos server architecture and upgrades
• Identifies and promotes Cognos best practices throughout the organization
• Maintains the accuracy and validity of data
• Utilizes appropriate strategies, technologies and methodologies to deliver effective and efficient solutions
• Works with account management and customers to define business rules, user interface and functional specifications
• Manages security into Cognos environments
• Processes and prioritizes enhancement requests for multiple clients
• Identifies and evaluates operating procedures, tools and alternatives and recommends improvements
• Responsible for scoping and estimating report related requests
• Manages Cognos licenses
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree in Business Management, IT or a related field
• Proven understanding of data warehouse concepts, database design and modeling
• Experience developing business intelligence solutions
• Experience with Cognos 8 Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio and Cognos Administration
• Experience with SQL Server 2005/2008 (Stored Procedures, Views, general SQL)
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Highly organized with a systematic approach to performing tasks
• Experience working in a team environment and as an individual contributor. Able to work independently towards a goal.
• Ability to balance high quality standards with schedule pressures and to thrive in a fast paced, sales focused environment

• Experience with IBM ISeries DB2
• Experience with Web based technologies
• Experience with predictive analytics
